Mel Marvin and Jonathan Levi bring long careers in music, theater, and literature to their collaboration.

Mel’s work as a composer includes scores for 5 shows on Broadway, 11 shows Off-Broadway, 47 plays and 3 operas.

Founding Editor of Granta magazine, and Founding Director of the Frank Gehry-designed Fisher Center, Jonathan’s novels, short stories, journalism, libretti and plays have been published in many languages and countries, from Colombia to Georgia.

Their collaborations include the operas “Guest from the Future” (premiere Fisher Center, 2004), “Buwalsky” (premiere Opera Spanga, Netherlands, 2004, U.S. premiere Yale New Theater, 2005), “Truth & Reconciliation” (Opera America, 2020), and the musical “Eden” (O’Neill Musical Theater Conference, 2010, Concert premiere, Joe’s Pub, New York, 2011).

Their latest album of rock songs, “Lives of the Artists,” inspired by Giorgio Vasari’s 1569 gossipy masterpiece about his buddies Michelangelo, Raphael, Botticelli and others, was released May 2, 2025.
